Major-General William MacBean, who attained his rank in 1873 after joining the 93rd Regiment as a private, gained the Victoria Cross for his actions at the main breach of the Begum Bagh at Lucknow in 1858, where he single-handedly killed eleven of the enemy. The Victoria Cross is the highest medal the British Empire has to give.
Major Forbes MacBean earned the D.S.O. for his bravery
in 1897 when fighting for the Gordon Highlanders when taking the heights
of Dargai.
Commander Alan Bean, an American astronaut, commanded Appollo XII to the Moon , in 1969.
Marnie
MacBean
, along with her rowing partner, Kathleen Heddle, made Olympic history,
in 1996 for Canada, when they became the first Canadians in any Olympic sport
to win three gold medals.
Doug MacLaren
,
climbed Mt. Everest in 2001 and placed a piece of our Clan
Tartan at the top of the world. Doug is the son of Sherrill (McBean) MacLaren
and cousin to Marnie McBean.
