Clan MacBean's Moon Tartan
Clan MacBean tartan is the ONLY tartan to have gone to the moon. Astronaut
Alan Bean took some on Apollo 12's journey. When it returned from the moon it
was given to the Clan and placed in the clan archives. A small portion was
attached to one of Alan's paintings (Clan MacBean Arrives on the Moon) which he
presented to the Clan at its 1996 Gathering. There is also a small portion that
hangs in Scotland commemorating the event.
No other clan can say that their tartan has been
"Out of this world!"

I have just learned that one of our MacBean Clansmen, Com. Alan Bean,
has been assigned the position of Explorer on the next flight to the moon
on Apollo 12!
Commander Bean has agreed to take a half yard of MacBean Tartan with
him, leave half of it on the moon as a flag, and bring back the other half
for deposit in our Archives.
When the President of this association was buying this MacBean tartan
in a shop in Victoria, B.C., Canada, the Scottish lassie who sold it said,
"Are you going to claim the Moon for Scotland?" He answered, "By no means.
We are going to claim it for the MacBeans!"
